May at Mermaid Kove – A Little Life Update
How is it the end of May already?! Seriously, the last few months have flown by in a blur, busy, beautiful, chaotic, and full of those moments that make you stop and just feel grateful.
Welcome to Maycember
If you’re a parent, you know. May isn't just May - it’s Maycember. December’s wild cousin with none of the sparkle, but all the activities. End-of-year school stuff, class parties, soccer games, karate belt tests, summer planning, it’s been a full-blown calendar juggling act over here.
Oh, and did I mention we also celebrated a bunch of birthdays this month? Because of course we did 😅
And in the middle of all that, Mermaid Kove has been busier than ever (which I am SO thankful for!). I’ve been packing orders, replying to messages, designing custom pieces — and doing it all with sandy toes, messy hair, and a super full heart. 💙
Celebrating AAPI Heritage Month 🇵🇭🇬🇺

May is also AAPI Heritage Month, and it means a lot to me personally. I was born in Guam, Filipino made, and grew up surrounded by the culture, dancing hula, celebrating big family moments, and learning to love and respect the ocean from a young age.
That connection to water, to community, to our strength and softness — it’s all wrapped up in who I am and how I run Mermaid Kove. It’s not just a business, it’s an extension of my roots.
Mother’s Day Magic
I hope you had a beautiful Mother’s Day 💐 I was totally spoiled this year. I got a new paddle board AND a kayak (I know, right?!). So I’ve been sneaking away to the water every chance I get. There's just something about being out there, it clears my head and fills up my soul.
Mental Health Awareness Month
Since it’s also Mental Health Awareness Month, I want to take a moment to check in and get real.
I live with anxiety and depression, and some days are just plain hard. I know what it’s like to keep going when you feel like you’re barely keeping it together. But I’m learning (slowly) that it’s okay to rest. It’s okay to say no. And it’s absolutely okay to ask for help.
You can be strong and still struggle. You can show up for others, run a business, be a parent and still have those days where breathing feels like the only thing you can manage. If that’s you right now, I see you. I am you.
Memorial Day – A Moment to Remember
Memorial Day is more than just a long weekend for me. It’s a day that hits home.
My family has deep military roots.
My great-grandpa died in the Bataan Death March.
My grandpa served in the Navy.
My dad fought in Desert Storm.
And so many others in my life; uncles, cousins, friends, the father of my children have served.

I’ve lived the military life. The PCS moves, the deployments, the homecomings, and the fear that comes with not knowing if your person will make it home.
I remember when I was younger, we had a calendar on the fridge marked with dates for when we’d get to talk to my dad. He could only call on certain days and times, and those calls were limited. We waited for those moments.
Eventually, things changed. Wifi made it easier to stay in touch, a blessing we never took for granted.
One moment I’ll never forget, I was FaceTiming with my kids’ dad while he was deployed. Sirens started blaring. I heard explosions. And then… the call dropped. A few days of silence. No updates. Just waiting, worrying, praying. His base had been hit, and comms were shut down. I just sat at home waiting for the two suits to walk up to my door. Luckily he was fine. That fear.. it stays with you.
So today, I’m remembering. Honoring. Holding space for every soul who gave everything so we could live the lives we do; free, safe, together.
Gratitude & Sunshine
San Diego is showing off with this perfect weather. Beaches are packed, BBQs are going, the sun is doing its thing, and I’m out there too. Paddle boarding, hanging with family, laughing a little louder.
But even while I’m soaking it all in, I’m still remembering. I’m holding space for the ones who didn’t make it back, and for the families who carry that loss every single day.
So today, I raise my glass to them.To their strength.Their sacrifice.Their stories.
From My Heart to Yours
If you’re still reading this, thank you. Thank you for being here. For supporting this dream of mine. For being part of this little community I’ve built with Mermaid Kove.
You’re not just customers, you’re family. You’re part of something that’s real, and rooted in love, culture, resilience, and a whole lot of gratitude.
Waves of love,
