A Busy Start to the Year

Okay… so time definitely got away from me.
I meant to write a blog in January, and then somehow February came and went too. The first quarter of the year just started moving and I felt like I was trying to keep up with everything happening all at once.
Between Mermaid Kove orders, work, kids, and just life in general, the beginning of the year filled up pretty quickly. Mermaid Kove had a few larger custom orders come through, which I am always so grateful for. Every time someone trusts my small business with their events or celebrations it still means a lot to me. I also had a few conversations with potential clients, which is always exciting and reminds me that Mermaid Kove continues to grow in ways I never imagined when I first starte
d it.
January also brought something really special for me personally. I was named Teacher of the Month.

It meant a lot because it came from the passion I bring when working with kids, the creativity I try to bring into the classroom, and the calm environment I work hard to create for them every day.

If you work with little kids, you know every day is different. Some days are messy. Some days are silly. Some days someone just needs a little extra patience or a hug. Creating a space where kids feel safe, supported, and free to be themselves is something I care deeply about. So being recognized for that honestly meant a lot to me.
And somewhere in the middle of all the busy moments, life still gave us a lot of little things worth celebrating.
Love Month
February always makes people think about love.
If I am being honest, I have always been the fairy-tale type. I grew up believing in love stories. The kind where two people find each other in unexpected ways and somehow it just works out the way it was meant to.
I have always believed in the kind of love that feels steady and real. Not the loud kind that fades quickly, but the kind that feels safe. The kind that feels like home.

But February also reminds me that love shows up in so many other ways too.
It shows up in family dinners. In messy craft tables. In long car rides and random laughter. In the little everyday moments that later become the memories we hold onto the most.
Sometimes the quiet kind of love is the most meaningful.
Black History Month
February is also Black History Month, which is something meaningful in our home.
Two of my kids are a quarter Black, so it is important to me that we talk about it and celebrate it.
We talk about history. We talk about culture. We talk about the people who helped shape the world we live in today.
But we also talk about identity and pride. I want them to grow up understanding every part of who they are and appreciating the history that comes with it.
Those conversations matter, and they are something we will always continue in our home.
Ski Week Reset

During ski week we decided to do something a little different and take a break from our normal routine. Instead of staying busy with our usual schedules, we packed up and went camping for the week.
There is something about being outside that just resets everything for me.

The fresh air, the quiet, the trees… it feels like the world slows down a little.
Some of my favorite moments were just sitting outside with my Kindle in hand, tucked between the trees, while the kids explored and played nearby. We also spent some time fishing, which the kids always get excited about. Being near the water, waiting patiently, and just enjoying the moment together felt really peaceful.
It ended up being exactly what we all needed. A chance to step away from our day-to-day life and spend time together in a simpler way.
Sometimes the best reset is just getting outside.
A Beach Birthday
One of the most special moments of the past couple months was celebrating J. Kai turning four.

Originally we were not planning to do anything big this year. But when we asked him what he wanted for his birthday, he knew right away.
He said he wanted a party at the beach.
So that is exactly what we did.
We invited his closest friends and family and kept everything really simple. We brought little wooden sailboats that the kids could decorate with markers and stickers. Watching them sit in the sand concentrating on their designs was honestly the sweetest thing. Each sailboat came out completely different, full of color and personality.
The kids spent most of the day running between the sand and the water. The older kids were out boogie boarding in the waves while the parents hung out nearby talking and watching the kids play.
It ended up being one of those really beautiful days where everyone was just enjoying the moment together. The sun, the ocean, the kids laughing, and the feeling of just being present.
Sometimes the best celebrations are the ones that are simple and full of real memories.
March Is Full of Little Celebrations
March always brings a few things we look forward to.
One of them is Dr. Seuss’s birthday. Working with little ones means I will always take any excuse to celebrate books, imagination, and creativity.
It is also the perfect excuse for messy activities, which I honestly love. Paint, glue, paper scraps, and a little chaos usually mean something creative is happening. Watching kids explore their imagination is one of my favorite parts of what I do.
St. Patrick’s Day Traditions
St. Patrick’s Day has always been a big celebration in my family.
Growing up we celebrated it so much that I honestly thought I must be part Irish.
Turns out I am not… but the tradition stuck anyway.
The holiday is special to us because it is also my grandparents’ anniversary.

Every year we celebrate together by making corned beef and cabbage and spending time as a family. We usually end the night playing games or watching movies together.
For the kids, one of the best traditions is making leprechaun traps. They get so creative every year with their designs. Glitter, rainbows, boxes, little ladders… they really believe they might catch one.
Watching their excitement and imagination during this tradition is always one of my favorite parts of the day.
Celebrating Women
March also brings International Women’s Day.
There are so many incredible women in my life. Women who are raising families, building businesses, chasing dreams, supporting each other, and showing up every day with strength and heart.
Strong women deserve to be celebrated, and I hope my kids grow up seeing just how powerful and important women are in this world.
A Little Mermaid Kove Giveaway
One of the fun things I got to do recently was host a little Mermaid Kove giveaway.

I posted a video showing a large custom shirt order and asked people to guess how many shirts were in the stack. It was actually really fun watching everyone comment their guesses and try to get as close as possible.
Sometimes when you are working behind the scenes on orders, people do not always see how much goes into it. So sharing those moments and letting people be part of it felt really special.
One lucky winner ended up being just a few shirts away from the correct number and won a free custom shirt.
Moments like that remind me how grateful I am for the people who support Mermaid Kove. Whether it is ordering something, sharing a post, or simply cheering this little business on, it truly means so much to me.
And if you missed that one… don’t worry.
There will definitely be more giveaways coming.
Something on the Horizon
As Mermaid Kove continues to grow, there are always new ideas quietly forming in the background.
Some creative things take time before they are ready to be shared. They start as little thoughts that slowly grow into something bigger.
Lately I have found myself spending more quiet moments writing and reflecting. Sometimes late at night when the house is finally quiet. Sometimes during those little pockets of time when creativity just starts flowing.
What started as a small idea has slowly turned into something deeper. Something about connection, timing, and the kind of love that finds its way to you when you least expect it.
Maybe it is the ocean in me, but I have always believed some things move like tides. They come in slowly, take their time, and when they finally arrive you realize they were meant to be there all along.
For now, it is still unfolding.
But something beautiful is on its way.
And if the ocean has taught me anything, it is that the right stories always find their way to shore.
Waves of love,
